Tiling over Heat Mats
Question
I have a question regarding the heat mats... I am in the process of building a ton of cages (too many new snakes at once, LOL)...
The bottom of the cages will most likely be melamine but maybe just plywood since I plan on tiling the entire interior, using the self adhesive 1' x 1' tiles.
Question is, can I tile over the heat mats without risk of fire? I'm also not sure what to do about the adhesive on the tiles.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.
Thanks so much,
Tina
Answer
Hi Tina,
Yes you can tile over the mats. I'm not sure how you could do both either. I gather the tiles are flexible. I think you will need to secure the mats with something like double sided tape or Silicone and push it down. If the tiles are flexible, it would allow some degree of movement over the top of the mats as they do not sit perfectly flat.
I have even seen people use the heat mats under the cage and also under ceramic tiles, so they are quite versatile.
I just use cheap, flexible floor covering. This is quite successful and can be cut to the exact size of the cage. It can also be easily sealed, making the base more water proof so your heat mats cannot sit in water.
Hope this helps
