I am ... very happy with your plans, the organization that you have put into it and I am extremely happy with the response I have gotten from you when I have encountered a problem.
It sure does save money. At the same time it allows me and others like me to experience making the cage for our animal (animals) that we care so much about. I think that when someone takes the time to sit down and make something like this for their animal it really shows how much they care for them and respect them.

With your plans you can also alter the cage to each and everyone's specifications, or needs. I think what you are doing is wonderful and I want to thank you again.

Sincerely
Robert Hansford

"This is going to make an 11 year old and his lizard Rex very happy".

Spent $108.00 at Lowes, another $65.00 at Home Depot buying things that Lowes didn't have..... Spending time with my son in a hardware store.... PRICELESS!"

"Overall, the best thing I have found from the cage designs... is that:
They work!!!!

They allow you to view and touch your Iguana from all sides, This is a must!

Once you have the material list you don't go back to the hardware store.

Just follow the instructions and it comes out perfect.

Your maintenance will be much easier.

Your iguana will thank you

Once again, you will have built something cool. "

Regards and best to all our Green Iguana friends, Lance and Joey Portwood Glidden, Texas ".

Water Proof Cage for Snapping Turtles

Question

I came across your website and your book on building reptile enclosures looks great!  I was looking through the FAQ's and noticed that there is a section on waterproof enclosures, but I was wondering if this includes large water-basd enclosures that you might use for large aquatic turtles such as snappers.

I've been trying to research methods of building large enclosures, similar to ones that you may see in reptile houses in zoos that are glass or at least transparent on one side.  Most keepers rely on stock tubs or ponds for large turtles.  Those are great for basking turtles, I have a turtle pond myself, but for snappers that rarely surface, enjoying them is reduced when you can no longer view them through glass.

Also, I see you have a section on fake rock walls.  Would these walls be safe for water enclosures such as the one I described above?

Thank you for any info you can give me at this time and I look forward to reading (and using ) your book.

Jeff

Answer

The waterproof enclosures are based on using the same sort of material that wooden aquariums are lined with.

It tells you the material to use and some information on setting it up. It should be fine for your requirements. You can obviously change the design to suit your needs but there should be enough information to build something to suit your needs.

I think the fake rock walls would be fine as all of the materials used are waterproof and will not deteriorate in water. Unfortunately I don’t have any hard evidence as to their durability in that sort of environment, but there is no reason to think that it would deteriorate.
